The Ultimate Guide to Building Your Custom Carbon Bike: Everything You Need to Know

Building a high-performance custom carbon bike is a process where precision matters. At SWI Cycling, we blend engineering, craftsmanship and art to create custom carbon framesets and custom carbon bikes that perform as beautifully as they look.

Start with the Perfect Frame.

The foundation of every exceptional bike is its frame. SWI is unique in building uninterrupted monocoque carbon bicycle frames formed in a single mould. Although this method is complex, time consuming and expensive, it produces a frame of unbeatable structural integrity, geometric accuracy and is ideally suited to high - performance cycling

The monocoque advantage:

  • Unlike mass produced carbon frames and tube to tube custom frame builders, a SWI uninterrupted monocoque frame has no joins, lugs or glue. This enables the unidirectional carbon fibres to be connected all around the frame without any obstruction, reducing vibrations and resulting in the most efficient transfer of power from pedal stroke into forward motion, creating a sensation of the bike ‘coming alive’ under the rider.
  • Furthermore, as a bicycle frame that comes out of the mould in one uninterrupted piece has no joins it removes all the points of weakness and geometric inaccuracy inherent in standard carbon bike frame manufacturing processes such as gluing different length tubes together used by ‘artisan’ custom frame builders’ or the gluing of 3 separate triangles (1 front & 2 rear) favoured by the mass market brands.

This means a SWI frame will be stronger and a better fit to the rider resulting in greater comfort and efficiency, especially over longer, all day rides.

Bespoke Engineering

SWI Cycling is the only carbon frame builder using Thin Ply Textile (TPT). This Swiss developed textile is used for carbon yacht racing sails, the carbon chassis of F1 cars and Moto GP superbikes due to it’s exceptionally dense yet lightweight unidirectional weave: 1mm of TPT has 14 layers, whilst 1mm of standard carbon fiber used by other bike manufacturers has only 5 layers. When this space age material is combined with our high-pressure moulding process, the result is a frame with an extraordinary stiffness-to-weight ratio, enhancing both performance and durability. This is key in the creation of a custom carbon bike frame, ensuring your bike is as safe and long lasting as it is fast.

A Different Approach to Carbon Bike Customisation.

SWI tailors frames based on the rider’s weight and power output, by adjusting the number of TPT carbon layers in key areas of the frame. When this is combined with our unique use of one uninterrupted carbon shell we believe this delivers the best combination of geometric accuracy and ride feel that it is possible to create.

The extraordinary strength & density of TPT is the key to  SWI’s unique approach to customising the frame to the rider. Achieving the rider’s desired blend of comfort and stiffness is the key to a successful custom build, and thanks to TPT SWI is uniquely able to adjust the number of layers of carbon in key areas of the frame (bottom bracket, head tube, chain stays) based on the riders weight and power output to deliver the desired ride feel.

By collaborating directly with our founder and frame builder, Stefano Cenere, you can customise the frame’s
comfort and stiffness, selecting the appropriate number of TPT carbon layers to match your desired ride feel based on your weight and power output.

SWI-cycling is the only brand where there is no requirement for frame assembly. Every SWI carbon frame is 100% geometrically accurate as the frame comes out of the mould as one uninterrupted carbon shell rather than individual tubes or triangles which must then be glued together. We offer our frames in very close increments (50cm, 52cm, 54cm, 56cm, 58cm, 60cm), therefore provided the rider has had a bike fit we can fit 95% of riders through adjustments to the lengths of the seat post, saddle set back, stem and crank, combined with cutting the steerer tube to achieve the necessary saddle to bar drop.

This unique bespoke custom bike process ensures that your custom carbon bike is precisely tuned for your performance requirements, making it the pinnacle of carbon bike customisation.

Select Your Components

With your frame set, the next step in the custom bike process is to choose the components that will complete your build. At SWI Cycling, we offer a curated selection of high-performance options, ensuring that every part of your custom carbon bike is built to excel.

Groupsets: Choose from the leading electronic groupsets with or without power meters, such as Shimano Dura-Ace, SRAM Red, Campagnolo Super Record

Wheels: Select from a range of the high-performance lightweight, carbon wheelsets from Lightweight, Campagnolo, Princeton and Partington, or we can source an alternative if desired.

Cockpit: Customise your SWI one piece handlebar & stem and seatpost to enhance your comfort and control. Choose from a wide range of different options

Integrated Handlebar options:

  • Stem lengths: 100mm, 110mm, 120mm, 130mm.
  • Bar Width: 400mm, 420mm, 400mm.

Seat Post options:

  • Seatpost: 0mm setback , 20mm setback.

The SWI Cycling Custom Build Process

Our custom carbon bike process is designed to enable high performance cycling, however, it will also be enjoyable. We are not only helping you to build your dream bike but we are also welcoming you into our SWI family!

Initial Consultation: During this call we will answer any questions you have and take details from you to help us assess the right frame build and size for you. you (e.g weight, FTP, desired ride feel, frame stack, frame reach etc).

Build Consultation: Using the initial frame drawings and a proposal for the TPT carbon lay-up, this is the moment when we will have an in depth discussion in order that our founder & frame builder, Stefano Cenere can really understand more about the type of ride feel you are looking for. Following this call the final engineering adjustments are made and the building begins

HandBuilding: Once you have approved the build specifications, the frame production would take place in our carbon workshop close to Bassano Del Grappa and last up to 60 days.

Final Delivery:
There are 2 options. We prefer to welcome you at our carbon workshop, where we will show you the production process, present you your custom carbon bike, go for a ride around the hills of Bassano Del Grappa, before finishing the day with some wine tasting and a team dinner to welcome you to the SWI family, or if you prefer we can deliver to your home address or to your preferred bike shop.

After Sales:
We believe the support we provide you after the sale is as important as the service we provide before……you are after all now a member of the SWI family. If something goes wrong, we are committed to do everything in our power to get you riding again as quickly as possible.
SWI-Cycling framesets are incredibly durable and we believe 100% in our materials, processes and quality control, therefore we offer a 50-year warranty against manufacturing defects for all SWI parts.
